Wood, Grant (13 February 1891–12 February 1942), artist, was born Grant DeVolson Wood on a farm near Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Francis Maryville Wood and Hattie D. Weaver. After his father died in March 1901, the family left the farm and moved to Cedar Rapids, where Wood lived throughout much of his life. In the summers of 1910 and 1911 he studied metalwork and jewelry making under the arts and craft designer Ernest A. Batchelder at the Minneapolis School of Design and Handicraft and Normal Art. Wood also took art classes at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, in 1911 and at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1913....
