Gould, Chester (20 November 1900–11 May 1985), cartoonist, was born in Pawnee, Oklahoma, the son of Gilbert R. Gould, a printer and publisher of a weekly newspaper, and Alice Miller. After two years at Oklahoma A&M, Gould transferred to Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, in 1921; he majored in marketing and commerce by day and attended the Art Institute of Chicago by night.
