Ridge, Lola (12 December 1873–19 May 1941), poet and social activist, was born Rose Emily Ridge, in Dublin, Ireland, the daughter of Joseph Henry Ridge and Emma Reilly. Taking Rose Emily with her, Emma Reilly immigrated to New Zealand in 1887. Mother and daughter lived in New Zealand and Australia for the next twenty years. At age twenty-one, Rose Emily married Peter Webster, manager of a gold mine, but the relationship was short-lasting. She subsequently moved to Sydney and attended Trinity College and the Académie Julienne, where she studied painting under Julian Ashton and wrote poetry....
