Page, Thomas Nelson (23 April 1853–01 November 1922), author, was born at “Oakland,” his family’s plantation in Hanover County, Virginia, the son of John Page, an attorney, and Elizabeth Burwell Nelson. Only twelve when the Civil War ended, Page saw the Old South firsthand during his most impressionable years. Idealizing the prewar South, he remained until his death a staunch defender of the old regime.
