Crane, Anne Moncure (07 January 1838–10 December 1872), novelist, was born in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of William Crane, a leather merchant, and Jean Niven Daniel, his second wife. Crane’s private education, supervised by Reverend N. A. Morrison, ended in 1855.
