Loving, Mildred (22 July 1939–02 May 2008), plaintiff in the Supreme Court case Loving v. Virginia (1967), plaintiff in the Supreme Court case Loving v. Virginia (1967), was born Mildred Dolores Jeter in Central Point, Virginia, to a tenant farmer and his wife. Her parents’ names are unknown. Mildred, who was of African-American and Cherokee descent, was educated in the segregated schools of Caroline County but dropped out before graduating.
