Hrdlička, Aleš (30 March 1869–05 September 1943), physical anthropologist, was born in Humpolec, Bohemia (now the Czech Republic), the son of Maximilian Hrdlička, a master joiner, and Karolina Wagner. Hrdlička spent the first twelve years of his life in Humpolec. In 1881 his family moved to the United States. They settled in New York City, where he completed his secondary education and in 1889 began his medical studies at the New York Eclectic Medical College. He graduated with honors and in 1892 entered general practice on the Lower East Side, while continuing his medical education at the New York Homeopathic College (1892–1894)....
