Lidz, Theodore (01 April 1910–16 February 2001), psychiatrist, was born in New York City, the son of Israel Isador Lidz, president of a button and novelties firm in Manhattan, and Esther Shedlinsky. Lidz grew up on Long Island and graduated from Columbia College in 1931 and from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1936. He received training in psychiatry at the Yale–New Haven Hospital for two years and at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Queen Square in London.
