Calderón, Alberto P. (14 September 1920–16 April 1998), mathematician, was born in Mendoza, Argentina, to a physician and his wife (their names are unknown). Encouraged by his father, Alberto showed an unusual precocity in mathematics and the sciences and was fascinated by mechanics.
