Stone, Marshall Harvey (08 April 1903–09 January 1989), mathematician, was born in New York City, the son of Harlan Fiske Stone and Agnes Harvey. The elder Stone was a prominent jurist who subsequently served on the U.S. Supreme Court from 1925 to 1942 as an associate justice and from 1942 to 1946 as chief justice. The younger Stone attended public schools in Englewood, New Jersey, before entering in 1919 Harvard University, where it was assumed that he would study law....
