Rathbun, Mary Jane (11 June 1860–04 April 1943), invertebrate zoologist, was born in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of Charles Howland Rathbun, a stonemason, and Jane Furey. The youngest of five children, she was raised by an elderly nurse after her mother died when she was a year old.
