Brandegee, Townshend Stith (16 February 1843–07 April 1925), botanist, was born in Berlin, Connecticut, the son of Elishama Brandegee, a physician, and Florence Stith. Townshend Brandegee (usually referred to as T. S.) grew up in central Connecticut, where his father was a country doctor and owner of a small farm. Both his father and uncle collected plants and interested him in natural history, especially ferns and birds.
