Pollak, Walter Heilprin (04 June 1887–02 October 1940), attorney, was born in Summit, New Jersey, the son of Gustav Pollak and Celia Heilprin. His father was an editor, literary critic, and contributor to the Nation, and his maternal grandfather and aunt were writers. The intellectual environment in the family influenced Pollak’s development as an extremely creative legal thinker and litigator. Educated at DeWitt Clinton High School in New York City, he attended Columbia University and graduated from Harvard College in 1907. After graduating from Harvard Law School in 1910, he joined the prominent New York law firm of Sullivan and Cromwell.
