MacArthur, Catherine T. (23 November 1908–15 December 1981), insurance executive and philanthropist, was born Catherine Terese Hyland to a humble family of devout Irish Catholics on the South Side of Chicago. From a young age, Catherine was taught the value of entrepreneurship. Her father, James Hyland, was a day laborer who, through hard work and perseverance, saved enough to purchase several retail stores and went into the real estate business.
