Ginzberg, Louis (28 November 1873–11 November 1953), Talmudist, was born in Kovno, Lithuania, the son of Isaac Elias Ginzberg, a well-to-do merchant who traced his ancestry to fifteenth-century Italian Jewish scholar-bankers, and Zippe Jaffe, great-granddaughter of the brother of the Gaon of Vilna, the greatest Talmudist of all time.
