Dearing, John Lincoln (10 December 1858–20 December 1916), missionary and theologian, was born in Webster, Maine, the son of Joseph Henry Dearing and Susan Vinton Adams, farmers. Dearing earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Colby College in Maine and graduated from the ministerial course at Newton Theological Institution in Massachusetts in 1889. For two years he was superintendent of schools in Deep River, Connecticut (1884–1886), and he served briefly as pastor of the Baptist church in Cambridge, Massachusetts (1889–1890)....
