Hayden, Carl Trumbull (02 October 1877–25 January 1972), U.S. representative and senator, was born in Hayden’s Ferry (now Tempe), Arizona, the son of Charles Trumbull Hayden, a mill owner, and Sallie Davis. He was raised in Hayden’s Ferry, a town founded by his father in the arid Salt River valley. Hayden graduated from Tempe Normal School in 1896 and entered Stanford University later that year. He failed to complete his degree at Stanford, returning home in 1900 to help his ailing father run the business....
