Thomas, J. Parnell (16 January 1895–19 November 1970), congressman, was born John Parnell Feeney, Jr., in Jersey City, New Jersey, the son of John Feeney, a Jersey City police commissioner, and Georgianna Thomas. His father died in 1905, and Thomas’s mother moved the family to Allendale, New Jersey. After graduating from high school in Allendale, Thomas attended the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Finance for two years. In 1916 he entered New York University Law School. He left after one year to join the army. During World War I, Thomas rose to the rank of captain, and he was discharged in 1919. He married Amelia Wilson Stiles in 1921; they had two sons....
