Hodges, Courtney Hicks (05 January 1887–16 January 1966), army officer, was born in Perry, Georgia, the son of John Hicks Hodges, a newspaperman, and Katherine Norwood. Hodges attended local schools and North Georgia College prior to entering the U.S. Military Academy in 1904. He was deficient in mathematics, however, and was dismissed from West Point after one year. Hodges returned to Perry and worked as a grocery clerk for a year before enlisting in the army as a private. In 1909 he qualified on competitive examinations for a commission as a second lieutenant.
