Mitchell, Charles Edwin (6 Oct. 1877–14 Dec. 1955), banker, was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, the son of George E. Mitchell, a produce merchant and the one-time mayor of Chelsea, and Ann Knowlton Mitchell. Mitchell attended public schools in Chelsea. He overcame a childhood stutter to win a speech contest at his school and to become class president.
