Parke, John (07 April 1754–11 December 1789), soldier and poet, was born in Dover, Delaware, the son of Thomas Parke, a prosperous hatter and sheriff, and Ann (maiden name unknown). Parke was educated at Newark Academy and College in Delaware and later at the College of Philadelphia, receiving from the latter a bachelor of arts in 1771 and a master of arts in 1775.
