Leif Eriksson (c. 975–1025), explorer and discoverer of America, was born probably in Eiríksstaðir/Haukadal, Iceland, the son of Erik the Red, a farmer and the discoverer of Greenland, and Thiodhild. Though Leif Eriksson (Old Norse: Leifr Eiríksson) is one of the most famous persons in Western history, little is known about his life except his discovery and exploration of Vinland/America.
