Mankiewicz, Joseph Leo (11 February 1909–05 February 1993), scriptwriter and movie director, was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, the son of Frank Mankiewicz, a language instructor and the editor of Modern Language Studies, and Johanna Blumenau.
