Townley, Arthur Charles (30 December 1880–07 November 1959), founder of the Nonpartisan League, was born near Browns Valley in northwest Minnesota, the son of Fitch R. Townley and Esther J. Cross, farmers. He attended high school in Alexandria, Minnesota, and after graduation spent about two years teaching, but then he turned to his dream of owning land....
