Comstock, John Henry (24 February 1849–20 March 1931), entomologist, was born in Janesville, Wisconsin, the son of Ebenezer Comstock, a farmer, and Susan Allen, a nurse. Comstock grew up in upstate New York in a succession of foster homes after his father died en route to the California gold rush.
