Butterfield, Kenyon Leech (11 June 1868–26 November 1935), college president and rural sociologist, was born in Lapeer, Michigan, the son of Ira Howard Butterfield, Jr., and Olive F. Davison, farmers. He spent part of his boyhood on the family’s dairy farm and studied at the Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University), which his grandfather Ira H.
